Who we are?
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind is a leading patriotic, traditional and charitable organization in India. It was established in 1919. Shaikhul Hind Maulana Mahmoodul Hasan (Rh.) was the founding president of Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind. JUH has branches in 22 states and metropolitan cities of India. The State Branches are subdivided further down to district and unit level with properly constituted Working committees, presidents, secretaries and other office bearers. Jamiat has almost one crore primary members across the country.
Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind has a rich legacy of struggle against British Imperialism to free our country. Jamiat leader Maulana Syed Hussain Ahmad Madani(Rh.) advocated the idea of composite nationalism and joint struggle of all religious communities against the British and justified inter-communal unity and cooperation on the basis of the Quran and the Hadith.
In the post independence period Jamiat made notable contributions towards making India secular state and framing a secular Constitution. Now Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind continues its work for social welfare, peace and communal harmony, against communalism and anti-terrorism. In November 2008, Almost six thousand scholars endorsed an anti-terror edict in the 29th general body meeting of the Jamiat Ulama-i-Hind, endorsed a fatwa that declares that all forms of terrorism are against the spirit of Islam. The fatwa(edict) was issued by the Darul Uloom Deoband and signed by its Grand Mufti, Habibur Rahman Khairabadi.
West Bengal State Unit is the strongest state unit of iamiat Ulama-i-Hind. Peer Abu Bakar Siddique(Rh.) of Furfura was the first president of West Bengal State Jamiat-e-Ulama. Renowned Journalist Maulana Md. Akram Khan(Rh.) was the first general secretary of the organisation. Remarkable scholars like Allama Ruhul Amin (Rh.), Maulana Bazlur Rahman Dargapuri (Rh.), Maulana Abdul Haque (Rh.), Hafiz Muslim (Rh.), Maulana Md. Tahir (Rh.) was closely associated with this organisation. It has near about 10 lakh primary members, around 500 units, 41 member high powered working committee along with 22 district committees.
